Confessor
Alistair was a bright and eager pupil, hand-picked as the most promising boy from the priory's orphanage. He had shown advanced cognitive skills and achieved almost perfect scores in all written exams. This tradition had been forged over centuries, flawless in its transition from generation to generation, one era bleeding into the next. There was always a teacher willing to impart his knowledge and a student prepared to learn the ways of his predecessors.
Alistair lay awake night after night listening to the sound of the rain slamming against the clay tiles of the roof. What little relief he did manage for his weary mind was marred by horrific nightmares. This was his curse, what he had been chosen to do, what he was raised for. He had no choice, those in his position never do, this was now his burden to bear.
Being a Confessor meant hearing the most sordid, disgraceful elements of mankind. It was his job to hear these atrocities, each and every horrible detail. The part that Alistair could stomach the least was telling these monsters that being repentant meant that it was all okay, that God had forgiven them their sins. Alistair knew that his soul could not rest while the cries of the innocent went unheard.
It seemed to rain constantly, as though the weather itself was trying to dampen any joy Alistair could muster.
